A lot of time is spent being frustrated with a single problem, but the reward for figuring it out is usually well worth it. So, if you're planning on being a web developer and you don't like Zelda, you might be in some trouble. I've also found that there are a few people out there that want to get into software development because it's a monetarily lucrative field. Like you said, this job is about passion. If you don't actually like this work, you probably won't get very far. I know this seems like a no-brainer, but it's pretty common. It sounds like your brother has the right attitude, though.
